Grand Master Ralph Jaschke, born on June 26, 1951 in Victoria, Texas, was a true icon in the world of martial arts. Graduating from Victoria High School in 1969, he pursued higher education at Victoria College and Sam Houston State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in criminology and a Master’s degree in education.

His journey into the world of Karate began in 1967 under Tom Redmon during the “blood and guts” Golden Era of Karate. His dedication and commitment led him to receive his Black Belt from Jhoon Rhee in 1970.

In 1974, he moved to Washington DC to work with Grand Master Jhoon Rhee, and later returned to Victoria in 1979, where he established the Nautilus Fitness Center and the Victoria School of Karate. In 1984, he opened the American Karate Institute.

A truly distinguished fighter, he achieved victory in both the Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight Full Contact Point Championships and was rated as the number 12 in the world by the Star Rating System in 1987, among the countless titles and achievements through Martial Arts. Even when faced with the challenge of cancer in 2016, Ralph displayed remarkable courage and determination. That same year he was nominated to the American Karate Hall of Fame.

Over his 50-year tenure as a Martial Artist, he’s taught more than 20,000 students, produced over 200 black belts, and organized over 80 tournaments. Although he departed from this world on October 18, 2018, his spirit lives on here at the American Karate Institute.

His legacy is immortalized through his Dojo and the many lives he impacted. His dedication and impact are echoed in the words of his many students, such as Grand Master Allen, who vividly recalls the early days of rigorous training under Grand Master Ralph’s guidance. Today, they continue to honor their Grand Master by keeping his energy, spirit, and curriculum alive in their school, a testament to the lasting impact of Grand Master Ralph Jaschke, making Victoria, Texas recognized as a Martial Arts Town.
